Car: 69 Beaumont Deluxe Coupe

Konn.

I bought my car in 1982 for my thirtieth birthday because I always wanted a hot car. A friend I knew was trying to sell a Beaumont Deluxe with a 350 V8 engine, factory four speed manual transmission and a twelve bolt posi-traction rear end. The car had ladder bars with big supercharger tires. To keep the tires from rubbing against the body when you went over a bump the previous owner had put blocks of wood in the coil springs. While that modification took care of the tires rubbing it made the car ride like an old buck board wagon. After I bought the car I changed out all those modifications and put the car back to stock with a nice set of radial tires.

I enjoyed the car for some years until I met my wife and we decided to build a house and have two wonderful kids. The Beaumont sat for about five years , then one day I started the car up and drove it out of the garage. The old Beaumont smoked so bad I drove it back into the garage and shut it down. I had thoughts of selling the car until my son said "Dad, you got married in that car and don't you think it would be nice if the car was around when I get married?"

Well that's all it took to get me going to restore the car. Three years ago (1997) the motor came out to be rebuilt. I took the engine to Mid Island Engines and found out the motor had been changed sometime before. The engine was only a two bolt main block, it had been bored 40 over, five of the pistons were also cracked. Paul at Mid Island Engines had a balanced four bolt main 355 V8 engine sitting in his shop for sale. I bought that engine and added a Isky 270 camshaft and reworked the heads and put them on the block. Their a good buck of guys at Mid Island who are always willing to help. I picked their brains a lot about what other things I should do to the motor. I finished off the motor with a Weiand intake manifold, a Carter carburetor and electronic ignition

In the summer of 1999 I took the Beaumont in and had a new paint job done to the car. In the spring of 2000 I had the transmission bearings replaced, to keeping it running smooth. I have plans to get the interior reupholstered in the near future. At present I'm enjoying the car and going to the local car shows.

Here's how my Beaumont Deluxe came from the factory
