Peg and Chris Whittaker's '70 Chevelle

Our 1970 LS6 Chevelle was purchased in 1997 as a 25th Anniversary present! Although I was working slowly on a '38 Chevy to cruise in, (ed note: the '38 Chevy made its first appearance at a Show 'n Shine during the summer of 2002) we decided on something memorable to mark our special day. Diamonds and cruises (not car cruises) just weren't going to "cut it", however, we could agree on a special car!

We looked at several vehicles before finding the Chevelle. An LS6 definitely filled "the bill" as something special for our 25th. After thorough inspections and negotiations we brought the car "home" to Vancouver Island at the end of October 1997. A 27 year old Chevelle to commemorate our 25th!

There were a few minor problems that required my attention during the winter months, however, the car was basically ready for the road when we purchased it. We couldn't wait for the spring sunshine so we could get out and cruise in our anniversary special!

When we purchased the car we were able to obtain considerable documentation, including original build sheet, General Motors of Canada documentation and an appraisal. We were also able to obtain a print out from the Ontario Motor Vehicle Office that listed previous owners of our LS6. I was able to have a telephone conversation with the last Ontario owner.

The car had only 53,000 miles, however, through my research I have come to the conclusion that some of the early miles were in weekend quarter mile increments! The information from the Motor Vehicle Branch indicates that the owner who originally raced the Chevelle actually owned the car twice.

Peg and I really enjoy driving the car, however, we drove it very little this past summer-the completed '38 project took in most of the shows. With the ever increasing value of this rare American muscle we often have mixed emotions about taking our "anniversary present" out of the garage. The Cranberry Red Chevelle was built in Baltimore and was one of 231 LS6's brought into Canada.
