Car: 1964 Beaumont SD Convertible

Steve Scholz's 1964 Beaumont SD Convertible

My wife Rhonda and I inherited our ’64 Beaumont SD convertible from her Dad. Rhonda’s father loved old cars, and in 1992 he purchased the convertible, originally bought from a dealer in West Vancouver, from a gentleman in Chilliwack BC. During the winter of ‘92-’93 the Beaumont was restored. I will never forget the day he drove up to our place in his Beaumont! He arrived with the top down and a smile on his face! He was totally “in love” with ‘64’s because for him this was the beginning of “The Muscle Car Era”!

Sadly, he passed away from cancer only a few years after the Beaumont was restored. For us, the convertible is a very sentimental remembrance of who he was and how he enjoyed old cars so much. We love taking our two girls, his granddaughters, for cruises through White Rock on warm sunny evenings.

The restoration completed in 1993 saw all rusted panels and floor pans replaced with new metal, and new body mounts installed. The Beaumont is painted a light diamond blue metallic (not an original colour). The grille is original, however, the front and rear bumpers have both been re-plated. The correct 195hp 283 with powerglide is still under the hood. The motor is in good stock condition. A new top and electric motor were also part of the restoration project. The interior has been completely refurbished.

The original full disc 3 bar spinner hubcaps still adorne the wheels. It took me two years of searching to find a replacement for a hubcap that went missing. Our Beaumont SD Convertible is a great car for summer cruising!
