Car: 1966 Chevelle 300 Convertible

John O'Brien

This car was originally owned by a "little old lady" in Victoria, BC for about 20 years. She sold it to my brother about 15 years ago. He did the body work, put on a new roof and kept the car healthy. He had an opportunity to invest in recreational property and I jumped at the chance to get my hands on his car.

I have redone the 283 motor, added lots of chrome and a new exhaust system. I have also replaced various minor parts and added rims and tires. The car could use a new paint job and repairs to minor bumps. It is a treat to drive with the top down.

My girlfriend and I can often be seen driving in the Parksville Qualicum, Port Alberni area. I even added a third seatbelt in the front to keep things nice and cozy!

My goal is to keep the cost within reason so I can enjoy it as much as possible without being worried about the car. A recent appraisal put the car at $18,000 Cdn which reflects what I have invested. So far so good.

If you notice the personal plate, it says MBEZLR which stands for embezzler. Being an accountant, I thought the name fit as it "steals from me".

I have been to several show and shines on Vancouver Island and thoroughly enjoyed meeting other car enthusiasts and club members. There is a lot of knowledge that is willingly shared. I have lots to learn and look forward to next spring and many more marvelous days driving the convertible.
