Car: 1972 Heavy Chevy
Finally my membership application is being sent in, after receiving the form in October (1996). I would like to thank Rick (I hope that is who it was, I kind of forgot?) for the personal phone call and the brief information that was given to me in regards to the club and my Chevelle. At that time, I was just starting to discover information relevant to my Chevelle. At first, I thought the car was a “plain jane” but it turns out that the car is a little more unique
My Chevelle is a 1972 Canadian built “Heavy Chevy” model and I purchased the car from the original owner. The car has all the original panels and drive train. The car’s interior, along with its exterior paint have been changed. Since owning the car for three years, I have slowly undertaken the restoration process in small stages. Every year, after the long cold Thunder Bay winter ends (sometime in April), the Chevelle is taken out of its winter storage location (the back yard). At this time, I will try to tackle one major job per year. Last year it was the engine and this year the tranny will be rebuilt. I do all the work myself, with the exception of major rebuilds (engine, tranny, rear end). I will proceed with the restoration in this stage method so I can enjoy driving the Chevelle every summer. There is so much work to do!

I was born and raised in Thunder Bay and my hobbies include repairing cars and most recently surfing the Internet. Ever since my “teens” I have had a passion for cars (like most guys). I love to stay informed about all the latest models and the newest auto trends in the market place.
About five years ago I got hooked on Muscle Cars of old and eventually purchased my Chevelle. Presently, at twenty four years old, I have an approach where I like to see Muscle Cars restored to good condition and driven not trailered. Thanks.
Editor’s Note: By the picture you will see that Gene has a way to go in his restoration. However, his car is one of the very few Heavy Chevys built in Canada to stay in Canada. I look forward to a time when Gene will send us a “finished picture” so we can all see another Heavy Chevy in all its glory. Also Gene is just one of three or four members in this club who has one of these rare cars.
