Trevor Mead's '69 Beaumont

I have always been interested in cars from a very young age. Over the years I have had quite a few vehicles, however, for the last few years I have not owned a car. The “bug” got me again last spring, so I purchased a copy of “The Old Car Trader” as a starting point for my search for a ’71 Chevelle, my favorite year. After a number of phone calls and trips to see various cars I was starting to give up on finding my perfect ’71. In yet another edition of the “Old Car Trader” I came across an ad for a ’69 Beaumont. This didn’t really interest me, however, I shared the magazine with my younger brother (he owns a ’69 Chevelle SS) and he insisted that since the Beaumont wasn’t too far away we should at least go and have a look at it. It wasn’t exactly what I was looking for but I thought that I had nothing to lose by going to take a look at the car and see what kind of shape it really was in.

I decided to make a phone call and ask a few questions. This conversation convinced me that I should take the 45 minute drive to see the car. The trip proved to be well worth it. I was more than pleasantly surprised with the overall condition of the Beaumont; in fact I was so pleased that after a couple of hours of examining the car and some negotiations a deal was made and the next day the Beaumont was at its new home in my garage!

The Beaumont was a numbers matching 300hp 350 with a turbo 350 tranny and a 2:56 posi rear end. The body had been restored about eight years before I bought the car. It was still in great shape needing only a few minor “parts and pieces”. I immediately ordered new carpets, trunk rubber and installed some new 15” TA”s and Cragar SS rims.

After a few weeks of cruising around town, I decided that the Beaumont needed some different rear end cogs. The 2:56’s were replaced with a set of Auburn pro-series 3:73’s, the trans was rebuilt and a stage two shift kit and 2200 stall converter were added. Also I installed all new rear bushings. What a difference this made in cruising around town! A summer of car shows and cruises changed my mind; my favorite car was now a ’69 Beaumont! I definitely have no regrets that I didn’t purchase a ’71 Chevelle.

This past winter I decided that the Beaumont still needed a few more “goodies”. A 383 stroker built by Pro Max Performance of Edmonton was installed. I now have plans to take the 442 hp Beaumont to the local drag strip this summer (the original numbers matching 350 is safely tucked away!). Also added during the winter project were Dynomax headers and a new 3” Flowmaster exhaust system. A new black paint job is scheduled for this spring. I really hope this coming summer proves to be as enjoyable as the last one was.

The research I have done on my Beaumont shows that the car has always been in the Edmonton Alberta area. It appears as if I am the fourth owner of the car that was originally sold by South Park Motors of Edmonton.

The original motor was 350 300hp 4bbl Astro Flash V8. Other options were:
