Fred Mandeno's '66 Beaumont

When I was seventeen years old I managed to save enough money to purchase a one year old 1966 Chevelle Malibu 2 dr. hdtp with a 300hp 327. I owned the Malibu for several years and during this time I built a ’36 Dodge hot rod. Also during these years I married and started a family. As is the case for many “car guys” these two cars didn’t fit the new “family plan”. The Malibu and Dodge were sold and a 69 Chevelle replaced them.

Over the following years I owned many new vehicles including Olds Cutlass, Monte Carlos, and a Buick LeSabre T-type (still have this one) but my favourite always remained my ’66 Malibu. I often thought about owning another ’66 and five years ago I decided that the time had come to find a ’66 Malibu that I had always talked about and focused on. During the search I looked at many vehicles, however, I just couldn’t seem to find the right car. I decided to broaden my search to include Beaumonts.

The new search criteria proved successful and a ’66 Beaumont was found that was “what I was looking for”. I was delighted that I expanded my search because I am now the proud owner of a 1966 Beaumont Custom 2dr hdtp.

I purchased my Beaumont in 2000. It had a body off restoration completed on it before I bought it. The original 283 powerglide had been replaced with a 350 matched with a turbo 350 tranny. The original 3:08 gears remain. The Beaumont is painted black cherry with a black SD interior. A few minor cosmetics remain to be done on the Beaumont and I plan to look after these when I retire in three years. In the meantime I just plan to cruise the highways (when weather permits) in my ’66 Beaumont!

Fred’s ’66 Beaumont was originally purchased from Cliff Mills Motors Ltd. In Oshawa ON. equipped with the following
