Car: 1965 Chevelle Malibu SS 2 Dr Hdtp

We recently entered our two 1965 Chevelle Malibus in a local Edmonton Show & Shine where we had the opportunity to speak to Randy Jethon who owns a beautiful 1964 Beaumont Custom convertible. We had admired each other's cars but never had the opportunity to chat. We showed each other our restoration albums and had a very nice Beaumont/Chevelle conversation. Randy mentioned he would provide my name to your club and I was pleased to receive your most recent publication (Sept/Oct 1999 issue). Imagine my surprise when I saw your "Car of the Month" because we also own a 1965 Malibu four door sedan. It's nice to see one of these cars in the spotlight.

As previously mentioned we currently own two 1965 Chevelles that have been restored to original condition in the last three years. Each car originated from a different area of the country but both have similar histories, as you will see. I found this car while driving down the street, it was parked on the side of the road with a for sale sign in the passenger side window. I stopped to take a look and found the owner asleep in the car. After a good looking over of the car we decided to purchase it. We purchased this car in Calgary (May 1993) from the daughter of the original owner. The car was purchased new at Morrison Chev Olds in Victoria, B.C. and driven there for most of its life. The daughter inherited the car and only drove it for a few months until we purchased the car from her.

The car was in very good condition with minor rust and had only 53,000 original miles showing on the odometer. We drive the car daily and it now has 97,000 miles showing but the elements were taking their toll and the body required attention. We had just completed restoration on our other car (1965 Malibu SS) and wanted to wait but the rust would have been much worse had we left the car for another Alberta winter. We had the body and paint professionally done and the work was completed in the fall of 1998. The interior needed very little work mainly just a good cleaning. We still drive our 1965 Chevelle Malibu sedan it looks and runs great. We get many appreciating smiles and waves every time the car is on the street.

Our '65 Chevelle Malibu sedan came with the following options:

· A02 Tinted front windshield · A49 Custom seat belts with retractors · B70 Padded instrument panel · C14 Two speed windshield wipers · L22 230 Cu In 6 cylinder engine · M35 Powerglide two speed automatic transmission · P01 Full wheel covers
