Car: 1969 Chevelle Malibu Convertible

Hi my name is Deb Idiens from Campbell River, BC and earlier this year I took the plunge and sold my “mint” 1988 Four Runner and purchased a 1969 Chevelle Malibu convertible (not quite so mint). Freely I admit this has been the best trade I have ever made. My husband thought I was nuts at the time but I think now he is a litt le in love with her too!

My baby is a 307 cu in - 200 HP Chevelle built in January of 1969 at the Oshawa Ontario plant. The original colour was fathom green with a white top. It has been painted red and the top is now black. I am really torn as to what to do when I redo the exterior. Green or Red? Any suggestions? The interior is parchment and in great shape with black carpet, dash, etc. So I’d like to leave the top black. The paint is a different story. I’m still working on locating past owners to find out details.

I have to be honest and say that I had originally been looking for an RS/SS first generation Camaro, but when I laid eyes on this little lady I was hooked. My apologies to all those Camaro lovers, but this car started the ol’ heart afluttering, and driving it creates massive ego inflation!

Here are some of the options on my car:

My girlfriend in Vancouver has a beautiful 79 Vette and when we went out crusin in the Malibu (top down of course) we got so many favourable comments on the car, she got quite perturbed and informed me she never gets that driving her car. My heart swelled even further.

My husband Bill and my Mom and Dad (who have a 66 Beaumont) attended our first show in July in Courtenay were we met Walt, Don, Rick and Dave.... But you’ve already read about that meeting in the “Have you heard” section in the last issue. Needless to say by the end of the day (actually five minutes) we were joined up and welcomed with open arms. We have never met a more friendlier group and our thanks to those guys and others in the group that made us feel so welcome and involved in a part of something so special.

Coming from a gal that’s still traveling through her first childhood I’m really looking forward to up coming events and meeting more car enthusiasts. A group definitely after my own heart.

P.S. To those members of the “Campbell River Mafia” if you’re not adverse to a little extra company, we would love to join any in prompt to get togethers. Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you. Good Drivin!!
