Car: 1970 Chevelle

Gerry Askew's 1970 Chevelle

In the summer of “69” I decided to buy a new car. I was driving a 1960 Chevy Impala convertible. It was my first car. I liked G.M. and thought about my possibilities...Vette...too expensive, Chevy II, Camaro...no frame, so I decided on a Chevelle.

I liked small block 350’s, so I ordered BLUE... .

After 3 years of driving, I decided to winter store BLUE and I have been doing that ever since. At 80,000 km, I had the motor rebuilt by a local car racer named Larry “Killer” Kirkpatrick. I have added stainless steel exhaust 3" flow masters which has helped to save me money. I changed the suspension and steering parts in 2006 which raised the car and made the ride stiffer and more responsive. I found and installed original factory air-conditioning which is awesome for those “cruising evenings.” BLUE is our summer car. We have never been in an accident. This car is not a race car. This car is not a show car. It’s my car...
